Beatport Sets New AI Rules
Beatport has clarified its policy on the use of artificial intelligence in music, reinforcing its commitment to keeping human creativity at the heart of electronic music.
The platform has announced that it will not accept music that has been wholly or substantially generated by AI, while continuing to allow AI-assisted tools that support and enhance human creativity.
The policy specifically targets generative AI content, as well as the use of AI to clone or replicate artists’ voices or performances without explicit and legally cleared permission.
Beatport Expands Partnership with Beatdapp
To support the implementation of this policy, Beatport has expanded its long-standing partnership with Beatdapp, a specialist in music fraud detection.
Beatdapp’s new AI Music Detection technology will be used to analyze audio files as they are delivered to Beatport, helping identify whether a track is human-made, AI-assisted, or fully synthetic.
The technology is designed to analyze characteristics and underlying patterns within audio in order to identify content created with generative AI. As AI-generated music continues to evolve, Beatdapp’s detection technology is also designed to adapt to increasingly sophisticated AI tools.
According to Beatport, information about AI involvement will also be made available to its curation team, allowing them to consider how AI was used when deciding which content to feature on the platform.
AI-Assisted Production Is Still Allowed
Beatport’s policy does not prohibit the use of AI across the entire music production process.
The platform states that it is not discouraging the use of assistive AI tools for mixing, mastering, stem separation, or standard audio processing, as long as these technologies are used to enhance human creativity.
The distinction is therefore between AI as a tool that supports the creative process and systems that largely replace human creation.
Beatport says its policy and procedures will continue to evolve as the role of AI in music develops.
As AI-generated music becomes increasingly present across the industry, Beatport’s latest move highlights the growing importance of transparency, detection technology and human creativity within the electronic music ecosystem.
